Drag Workshop for Women

In the drag world men have been masquerading as women and women have been masquerading as men. Over the last two decades a new perspective has been developing on the fringes, women as women drag performers also known as Bio Queens, Faux Femmes, F2F (female to female) drag queens. You'll recognize some of the foremothers of female drag: Liza Minnellii as Sally Bowles; Mae West and her hyper-sexual and bawdy quick wit; and Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria. Biological women, born to glitz, glamour and drag, have begun to gain acknowledgement as Female Drag Performers in the past few years.


Empty Closet Women's Theater is joining in with organizations like Drag it Out in Fort Lauderdale and Diet Popstitute in San Francisco in creating space for both Drag King and Bio Drag performers; giving women the opportunity to develop and show their talent and creativity.

Empty Closet Women's Theater is producing a women only drag workshop February 15, 2014. The workshop will meet from 10 AM to 3 PM (EST) and will be lead by a Bio Queen and Drag King performance artists. The workshop is designed to help women get in touch with their inner queen and king, raise personal confidence, and foster self-expression. The workshop will cover some of the finer points of make-up artistry, costuming, picking a drag name, selecting music and developing a performance.

Workshop graduates will have the opportunity to perform at the Empty Closet Women's Theater "Out" Show, "Bully Me Not" scheduled for March 15, 2014.
